Private Water Rules

Having clean water is important to the environment. All private water systems being used for drinking water (this includes new wells, existing wells being connected to new dwellings, and ponds) must have a permit through the health department.

Access Private Water GIS

The Environmental Division of the Putnam County Health Department is providing direct public access to private water system and private sewage system information through the Putnam County GIS system.  To access this information please click here and follow the step-by-step instructions to find this information.

  1. Click on the link above to access the Private Water and Sewer GIS or click here.
  2. Enter the address in the search box in the upper left corner or zoom to the property you would like to access.
  3. When zoomed into the property you would like to look at, click on the blue dot to access private water system information. Click on the green dot to access sewage management information.  After the green or blue dots have been chosen a box will appear.
  4. Click on the “More Info” link in the box to access documents such as permits, pumping reports, well logs, soil reports, etc. (You may need to scroll down to see these options.)

Please note that some information will not be available until the permit has received final approval.  Data will be routinely added as information is available.
